One benefit of membership that “current” league and spare board members receive at the Nutana Curling Club is FREE practice ice. The ice availability times will be plainly displayed in our daily planner and on our website

Only current league and fully paid spare board members will receive this benefit.

It will be offered to children under the age of 19 of current members at no charge. (A parent must be present to supervise but is not required to be on the ice.)

Members of the NCC may “reserve” a sheet for a specific time by phoning or dropping in beginning on Saturday at 6:00PM for the following week.

Non-members of the NCC may “reserve” a sheet for a specific time by phoning or dropping in beginning on Sunday at 6:00PM for the following week. (For this policy only, a week will be described as from Monday until Sunday.)

For high performance players that are participating in any of our premiere curling events, practice ice will be available at no charge for “TWO DAYS” prior to the start date of the event. The ice will be plainly marked in our daily planner as practice ice for the feature spiel.

Updates to Membership & Draw Committee Report Print
    Thursday, 15 September 2005
  • Draw Times – All evening draws (Mon-Fri) will start at 6:20 & 8:40. This provides a balance between the two evening leagues. The later league will now start at a more favourable time allowing people to get off the ice at a reasonable time while still allowing the early draw to be a prime time league for those wanting to curl immediately after work. This may be viewed as a very minor change, however it will provide greater opportunity and success for the evening draws at Nutana.

  • Breaking of Ties – All games that end in a tie will be decided by a team shootout with each member throwing one stone and points awarded for each rock. On the button will be 4 points, a piece of the four foot will be 3 points, a piece of the eight foot will be 2 points and touching the twelve foot will be 1 point.

  • Club Championship – Nutana will hold a club championship at the end of the 2006/07 season. This will promote friendly competition among leagues and will also encourage curlers to attend each game as every game counts towards the season point totals.

  • Buzzer time - The buzzer is used to ensure all games finish on time. Please refer to "Buzzer Rule" below for more information.
  • Learn-to-Curl – Adult Learn to Curl on Sundays at 1:00PM

    Buzzer Rule Print
    Thursday, 15 September 2005
All regular league games are allotted 2 hours to complete the prescribed 8 ends. To ensure that all draws remain on time, a “buzzer” will be rung 1 hour and 40 minutes into each of the late afternoon and early evening draws and 1 hour and 50 minutes into the late evening draws. Most games should be well into their 7th end when the buzzer rings but, if your game is NOT then you may complete the end you are playing and ONLY one other. For the purpose of this rule an end will be considered completed only when the first rock has been delivered in the following end. Therefore the first rock must be in motion before the buzzer has rung for this not to be the last end. If a game is tied following the final end, then the prescribed method of breaking ties will be used.
